Layout Field Settings

Each field in OpenForms can be customizable using the field settings. To access the settings, hover over the field, select the gear icon, and switch between the Basic, Display logic, and Advanced tabs to change the settings.

This article lists all settings available for each Layout field. Please also see these resources:

Section 

  • Description: Add a note to appear below the field label.
  • Display logic: Show or hide this field based on the user’s previous responses. You can make the field read-only, hide it from respondents, or show or hide it based on specific circumstances. Sections also allow you to Stop form submissions with stop logic.
  • CSS class: Style the field by referencing a CSS class name from Admin > Themes > your theme > Custom CSS styling.
  • Data connection: Use the drop-down to select a data connection to apply to this field. Data connections are created by admins and validate or retrieve data from an external service. Only available on Team and Enterprise plans. 

Standard Group 

Available for Group and Office use only fields.

  • Description: Add a note to appear below the field label.
  • Display logic: Show or hide this field based on the user’s previous responses. You can make the field read-only, hide it from respondents, or show or hide it based on specific circumstances. Not available for Office use only > Standard Group fields
  • CSS class: Style the field by referencing a CSS class name from Admin > Themes > your theme > Custom CSS styling. Not available for Office use only > Standard Group fields.

Repeatable Group 

Available for Group and Office use only fields.

  • Description: Add a note to appear below the field label.
  • Repeat label: Add a label for each repeated group to display to respondents and we will automatically number each instance (e.g., “Contact 1” and “Contact 2”).
  • Minimum number of repeats: Set the minimum number of times respondents must complete these fields. Set this as “0” to make the group optional. This limit will not show automatically, so you may want to add it to the Description.
  • Minimum repeat error message: Enter an error message to display if a respondent doesn’t meet the Minimum number of repeats before submitting or proceeding.
  • Maximum number of repeats: Set the maximum number of times respondents can repeat the group. This limit will not show automatically, so you may want to add it to the Description.
  • Maximum repeat error message: Enter an error message to display if a respondent attempts to exceed the Maximum number of repeats.
  • Set repeats for a printable form: Set the number of instances this group will display on a printable form.
  • Display logic: Show or hide this field based on the user’s previous responses. You can make the field read-only, hide it from respondents, or show or hide it based on specific circumstances. Not available for Office use only > Standard Group fields
  • CSS class: Style the field by referencing a CSS class name from Admin > Themes > your theme > Custom CSS styling. Not available for Office use only > Standard Group fields.

Content 

  • Description: Add a note to appear below the field label.
  • Display logic: Show or hide this field based on the user’s previous responses. You can make the field read-only, hide it from respondents, or show or hide it based on specific circumstances.
  • CSS class: Style the field by referencing a CSS class name from Admin > Themes > your theme > Custom CSS styling.
  • External ID: Add an external ID for use with a data connection. Only available for Team and Enterprise plans. 

Image 

  • Description: Add a note to appear below the field label.
  • Alternative text: Add alternative text for the image. Alt text is read aloud by screen readers in place of the visual content.
  • Display logic: Show or hide this field based on the user’s previous responses. You can make the field read-only, hide it from respondents, or show or hide it based on specific circumstances.
  • CSS class: Style the field by referencing a CSS class name from Admin > Themes > your theme > Custom CSS styling.
  • External ID: Add an external ID for use with a data connection. Only available for Team and Enterprise plans. 

Video

  • Description: Add a note to appear below the field label.
  • Video transcript: Add a transcript for your video. This is displayed when users select the videoTranscriptText link below the embedded video.
  • Display logic: Show or hide this field based on the user’s previous responses. You can make the field read-only, hide it from respondents, or show or hide it based on specific circumstances.
  • CSS class: Style the field by referencing a CSS class name from Admin > Themes > your theme > Custom CSS styling.
  • External ID: Add an external ID for use with a data connection. Only available for Team and Enterprise plans.
